IT Training Orientation Session
September 7 – The IT Training Department at the College of the Extended University is hosting a free orientation session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants will hear an overview of the new IT course curriculum and can meet with instructors to discuss the new flexible format certificate programs. Fall 2006 Quarter Begins
September 21 – Thousands of students return to Cal Poly Pomona for the first day of Fall Quarter.

Fine Art Auction to Help Literacy Program
September 24 – The Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center will feature its first Literacy Through the Arts Auction of fine art to help raise funds for its outreach programs as well as scholarships for low-income families. More than 40 pieces will be offered from artists including R. Kenton Nelson, Paul Soldner, Michael Aschenbrenner, Steve Tobin, FR. Bill Moore SS.CC., William Catling, Shirley McWhorter-Moss, Craig French, Chris Toovey, Ken Scheffer, and many more. Read more...

Business and Baseball
September 25 – The College of Business Administration Alumni Chapter is sponsoring its third annual “Evening at the Ball Park ” for all alumni at Angel Stadium. The $30 ticket includes a private reception with a barbecue dinner and a seat in the Terrace box level ($56 value). Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona is Coming to Colorado
September 29 and 30 – Mike Boyle '66, radio personality on the Mike Boyle Travel and Restaurant Show, will host two Colorado Springs and Denver-area alumni receptions where you can meet President Mike Ortiz and fellow alumni. Read more...

Graduate & Professional School Day
October 5 – The Golden Key International Honor Society will host its 14th Annual Graduate and Professional School Day. Representatives from more than 100 universities and programs will be on hand with applications and information in the University Quad from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact Karen Capestro for more information at (909) 869-2341.

Alumni Association Golf Tournament
October 6 – Spend a Friday afternoon playing golf at Coyote Hills AND raising money for scholarships. All proceeds will go towards the Alumni Scholars program. Read more...

Landscape Architecture Hosts ASLA Alumni Event
October 6 – The Department of Landscape Architecture is hosting an alumni event at the ASLA Annual Meeting, EXPO and 43rd IFLA World Congress.  Cal Poly Pomona will have a table at the ASLA Alumni Reunion on Friday, Oct. 6, from 8 p.m. to10 p.m. at the Hilton in Minneapolis, MN. Cutting Edge Culinary Arts Class
October 7 – The College of the Extended University is offering a new culinary arts class that will give students the cutting edge. The new knife skills course will be from 10 a.m. to noon in the demo auditorium at the Collins School of Hospitality Management. Participants will learn knife selection and handling skills. Matt’s Run
October 14 – Volunteers and runners are needed for this event, which celebrates the life of Matthew Myers, a student who lost his life in an accident on campus in 2005. Matt was an avid runner, and the Run/Walk in his honor is designed to bring the community together to keep his memory and passion alive while raising money for scholarships. Read more...

14th Annual Pumpkin Festival
October 21-22 – Pick Cal Poly Pomona-grown pumpkins at this popular annual event. Other activities include insect fair, horse rides, a petting zoo, entertainment and a variety of food and game booths sponsored by the College of Agriculture student clubs. Advertising Account Planner

A senior account planner for UniWorld Group in New York City, Jean-Paul “J.P.” James has roots in the Inland Empire. After graduating from Upland High School, he entered Cal Poly Pomona through the Educational Opportunity Summer Bridge Program in 1991.

“The Summer Bridge Program was my introduction to university life,” says James. “It not only showed me the ropes for college success, but it also changed my life.” Read more…

Cal Poly Pomona Tops 100,000 Grads
In the early days, Cal Poly Pomona's alumni program was run out of a converted storage closet in Building One, and its membership information could be stored in a shoebox. The association might still be located in Building One, but the closet and shoebox days are long gone. Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona ranked among the top public universities in the West in the newly released 2007 edition of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The university placed fifth on the list of Top Public Universities - Master's in the Western United States, which includes all public schools whose highest degrees are bachelor's and master's. Memorial Run to be Held for Matthew Myers
Last October, tragedy struck the Cal Poly Pomona community when a car accident fatally injured a promising communications student walking across Kellogg Drive. A year after Matthew Myers' untimely death, hundreds of people are expected to gather in his honor for a memorial 5K run/walk Oct. 14. Read more...

Foal Patrol: Lots of Baby Horses on the Way
It's going to be a busy spring at the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center. As of late 15 mares are pregnant, which is more than double compared to last year. Eighteen mares have been artificially inseminated and 15, possibly 16, are expecting. Normally only 60 percent to 70 percent of artificial inseminations are successful. Read more...
