ComputerTECH Camp for Teens
August 8-12 – The College of the Extended University and ExtendTech Computer Training are offering a five-day computer day camp for teens. Participants learn about computer assembly, diagnostics and troubleshooting. As an added bonus, they get to keep the computer they build! Classes are open to junior high and high school students. Carol Vaness '74, Music

Sex, violence, murder, love.

These are just a few reasons professional soprano Carol Vaness thinks opera rocks. Having sung dozens of roles since her 1984 debut with the Metropolitan Opera, the Upland-based singer and Cal Poly Pomona alumna is perhaps best known for her signature role as Floria Tosca, the lead character in Puccini’s opera “Tosca,” which she has performed all over the world.

“I’m pretty good at stabbing people,” laughs Vaness, who as the Napoleonic-era Tosca takes revenge on the opera’s bad guy, Baron Scarpia, and then flings herself to her death from Rome’s Castel St. Angelo. Read more...

President Bush Announces Barbara Burke Among Recipients of Presidential Award of Excellence
President George Bush announced the recipients of the 2004 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) -- a program supported and administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Among the nine distinguished recipients is Cal Poly Pomona's Barbara Burke, a professor of chemistry and director of the Science Educational Enhancement Services (SEES) program. Read more...

Cal Poly Pomona Among Nation's Top in Awarding Bachelor's Degrees to Hispanics
Cal Poly Pomona ranks among the nation's top colleges and universities for granting degrees to Hispanics, according to the May 2005 edition of The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education . The university placed 22nd in the United States among four-year colleges for awarding bachelor's degrees to Hispanic students, based on 2003-04 information gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics. LIBRARY RENOVATION – A Message From Dean Harold B. Schleifer
We are very excited about sharing the latest developments about the University Library addition and renovation project. Recently, funds have become available to begin the renovation part of the project, originally planned as a second phase, at the same time that the addition is being built. The project is scheduled to start January 2006; and by spring 2008, students will enjoy an additional 95,000 square feet plus vastly improved areas for study, research, collaboration and access to the latest technology.
