New Grant Writing Course
January 3 The College of the Extended University is offering a new Grant Writing/Grant Management Certificate Program that will aid nonprofit organizations in their continuing efforts to raise funds. Miner's Canary: Native American Art Exhibit
January 14
Artist and professor Charlene Teters is the curator of this group exhibit, featuring work by Teters and Native American artists Norman Akers, Keri Ataumbi, Dorothy Grandbois, Edgar Heap of Birds and C. January 18 The College of the Extended University is offering a one-day seminar for individuals interested in becoming a notary. An Evening with Carol Channing will not only feature the famous Broadway sensation, but will also help raise funds to support the arts. The 90-minute performance, to be held in the University Theatre at 8 p.m., will also feature Cal Poly Pomona musical theatre, voice and dance students. VIP seating and a reception with Ms. Channing cost $100; VIP seats $50; general seating $35.

Black History Month Opening Ceremonies
February 2 Opening ceremonies, to be held at Los Olivos from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., celebrate the significance of gospel music in the black and African American community. This event hopes to enrich and encourage participants to learn and celebrate black history during the many programs throughout February. CSU To Launch 16 New Graduate
Science Programs
California State University has become the first statewide higher education system in the nation to launch the prestigious Professional Science Master's Degree program on multiple campuses. An $891,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation will enable the CSU to initiate the program on 12 of the university's 23 campuses, including Cal Poly Pomona. Read more...

With no telephones, electricity or paved roads, the Pedregal community has no organized form of communication. The Internal Revenue Service has always done a great job keeping tax returns confidential, particularly from credit reporting agencies. But this past October, the IRS began its new Income Verification Express Service (IVES) program. IVES offers electronic delivery of IRS transcripts and records.
