Urban & Regional Planning to Host Dale Prize Colloquium and Banquet

"Feminine Wisdom" Exhibit Celebrates Women's Herstory Month
Now through April 22 – Three exhibits explore "Feminine Wisdom" in recognition of Women's Herstory Month. "Feminine Wisdom" is presented by the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center, with satellite sites at the Bronco Exhibit Gallery and the Pomona Public Library Central Branch. Read more...

President, Barrio Planners

Nearly 25 years ago, five Cal Poly Pomona architecture and landscape architecture students took the lessons they’d learned in the college classroom about serving the community through design, returned to their neighborhoods in East Los Angeles and launched their careers. Together they founded the nonprofit Barrio Planners.

“We gave it a ’60s-style name so that it would be recognized and have a better image within the community,” says Frank Villalobos, who is president of the firm. “Barrio Planners was founded with the intent of coming back to the neighborhood and instigating change through environmental design, landscape architecture and community involvement.” Read more...

Founders' Celebration Raises $334,000 for Student Scholarships
Founders' Celebration 2006: Anka's Back! raised $334,367 that will go toward Cal Poly Pomona student scholarships, enhanced technology and facilities, outreach programs, and faculty and student research. Approximately 600 alumni, faculty, staff, community leaders and university supporters attended the university's benefit gala on March 5 at the Pacific Palms Resort in the City of Industry. Cal Poly Pomona Receives $100,000 Soccer Grant for All-Conditions Field
Cal Poly Pomona has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation that will be used to develop an all-conditions field on campus adjacent to Kellogg Field. The money slated for the all-conditions field is to be used for the construction of full-size soccer fields that can used by community and campus groups around the clock, no matter the weather. Nearly 1,500 students representing 98 teams matched wits at Cal Poly Pomona on March 4, after months of study to compete in the 20th annual Los Angeles County Science Olympiad. Read more...

President Michael Ortiz Named to California Student Aid Commission
President Michael Ortiz has been named to the California Student Aid Commission, which administers more than $2.4 billion in grants and loans, as the California State University representative. The appointment was announced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on March 15. Read more...
