Alex Calero ‘00, political science, has been appointed to the State Board of Psychology by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Matt Kunkle ‘00, civil engineering, was appointed as an associate for Hall & Foreman, Inc.  He will be assisting the firm’s principals in the areas of management, strategic planning and development of company policy and procedures.  Kunkle has been employed with HFI since 1999.

Cynthia E. Chang ‘01, computer science, is a project manager at New Line Cinema. She is married with a daughter and son. 

Brian R. Clarke ‘03, communications, is currently working as Director of Greek Life at the University of California, Irvine.  As an undergraduate at Cal Poly Pomona he served as chapter president for Sigma Phi Epsilon and as president of the Interfraternity Council (IFC).

Jerrod Walters ‘07, urban and regional planning, is currently the assistant planner in the community development department for the city of Chino Hills. 


David Ayala '00, civil engineering, is an engineer at UPS in Baldwin Park. He was married to Mikaela Barnett (also a Cal Poly Pomona alum) on May 4 at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens in Claremont. The couple currently resides in Upland.

Pati Barbosa '00, education, is a third-grade teacher at Moffett Elementary in Lennox, California. She also received her master's degree in Education from UCLA in 2002.

Kevin Butscher ’00, computer info systems, is a computer analyst at Capitol Group in Brea, CA. He is recently engaged to Mary Gresswell ’00, sports medicine, also a Cal Poly Pomona graduate. They plan to marry in September 2005.

Cathleen Chavez ’00, earth studies, was recently selected by the Environmental Leadership Program for a prestigious two-year fellowship. Chavez was chosen because of her work on watershed improvements, environmental public relations and hazardous substances control. She currently works for the State of California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control.

John Chovan ‘00, history, is a middle school history teacher for the Colton Unified School District . He graduated with his master's of education from Claremont Graduate University in 2003. His wife, Collette Taylor-Chovan ‘02, sports medicine, is also a science teacher in the Colton School District .

Chad Davis '00, pre vet science, has accepted admission to St. George's University 's School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada . He has also enjoyed a 17-year career in professional bicycle racing and plans to train for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Art Escamilla '00, psychology, is director or social services in a pediatric subacute facility in Loma Linda called Totally Kids Specialty Health Care. He oversees the psychosocial needs of patients and their families.

Janel Y. Freeman '00, agriculture biology, is a biology teacher at Bloomington High School. Freeman received a master's of education degree from UC Riverside and a single subject credential in biology.

Mary Gresswell ’00, sports medicine, is a physical therapist at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in Pomona, CA. She is recently engaged to Kevin Butscher ’00, computer info systems, also Cal Poly Pomona graduate. They plan to marry in September 2005.

Lauren Hurley ’00, english & '03, master's in education, is an English teacher at Charter Oak High School in Covina, CA.

Jennifer Matsuno ’00, liberal studies, is a first-grade teacher. She recently married Tim Fitzsimmons ’99, management and human resources, a Cal Poly Pomona graduate and a planning specialist.

Michael Tedesco '00, public administration, is an administrator for MTA. He married Michelle Lopez, a fourth-grade teacher, on July 10, 2004.

Mikaela Ayala '01, psychology, is an administrative assistant at Upland Hills Country Club. She was married to David Ayala (also a Cal Poly Pomona alum) on May 4 at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens in Claremont. The couple currently resides in Upland.

Chris Avila '01, food marketing, is a technical service representative at Dole Fresh Fruit Co. He married Olivette Duarte on August 23, 2003.

Raul Campos '01, engineering technology, is the radio host of “Nocturna” a nightly radio show on KCRW. His show reaches 80,000 listeners per week.

Daniel Cieslik ’01, geographic info systems, is studying to be an elementary school teacher. On December 27, 2003, he married Teresa Da Valle, also a Cal Poly Pomona graduate. The couple lives in Ontario.

Brian Ciszek '01, criminology, married Marisa Lunel on July 18, 2003. He is a loan officer in Rancho Cucamonga.

Teresa Da Valle ’01, accounting, is a senior accountant. On December 27, 2003, she married Daniel Cieslik, also a Cal Poly Pomona graduate. The couple lives in Ontario.

Cindy Fulton '01, pre-vet science, graduated from the University of Glasgow in Scotland with a BVMS (Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery). She is currently working as a small animal intern at VCA Sacramento Animal Medical Group in California.

Kristi Lee Graham ’01, food marking and agribusiness management, is an advanced agricultural development Peace Corps volunteer serving in the country of Moldova.

Joy Hass '01, dietetics, was the featured speaker at the San Gabriel Valley Unit of the American Diabetes Association an educational meeting about the importance of “Reading Labels and Portion Control.”

Heather Hovenier '01, liberal studies, is a middle school counselor in Costa Mesa, CA. She is engaged to Tim Marshall '02, Physical Education; they plan to marry in August 2004.

Janelle Ann Kettle '01, mathematics, is a math teacher at Oaks Middle School in Ontario. She was married to Jason Welch on July 20 at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. The couple currently resides in Ontario.

Emie Kuyumjian '01, biology, is completing the postgraduate medical program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine's Family Medicine Program in Quincy, Ill.

Sandy K. Lam, '01, English, cum laude, will graduate from Chapman University School of Law in May 2004. She serves as the managing editor of the law school's NEXUS Journal of Opinion publication. Sandy is also the co-founding president of APALSO (Asian Pacific American Law Students Organization) and co-founding member of Phi Delta Phi (International Legal Fraternity).

Abraham Prattella '01, business and minor in law, is an account executive for Cingular Wireless, as well as owner of Day Spa and Salon in La Verne. Prattella will soon be franchising out and is looking forward to tomorrow's promises. He is also involved in his church, Chino Valley Calvary Chapel.

Aisha Smith-Thompson '01, liberal studies, is executive director at Friends of Four-D College, a nonprofit organization that provides financial, educational, and social services support to health care students enrolled at Four-D College.

David Swann '01, finance, real estate & law, earned an MBA at Azusa Pacific University. After a one-year break in 2003, he plans to continue his education and pursue a law degree or masters in architecture starting in fall of 2004.

Rachael Tate ‘01, pre-credential, is a second-grade teacher for Ontario-Montclair School District. She got married to Anthony Melillo on July 17, 2004.

Patricia Tetzlaff '01, education, is a special education teacher and was recently engaged to a California Correctional Sergeant.

Matt Ballantyne '02, MUP, was named city manager of San Marino. His career in San Marino began in April 1998 when he was hired as an assistant planner from La Verne, where he was a contract planner. Two years later, he became a management analyst and prepared the annual budget for three years. He later was made assistant to the city manager, and was promoted to assistant city manager in April 2004.

Zachary Culberton '02, mathematics, is a math teacher at Claremont High School.

Frank GamboaFrank Gamboa '02, computer engineering, is currently a business analyst for Boeing in Huntington Beach and new owner of southern California's hobbyists networking site Hobbybud.com. As a student at Cal Poly, he was an active leader for the Society of Hispanics in Science and Engineering.

 

Frank Gonzales ’02, computer engineering, is an engineer for Southern California Edison. He is currently working toward a MS degree in electrical engineering at USC.

Brian Hee Lee '02, hotel and restaurant management, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Kelly Marshall '02, pedagogy, is a student with the credential program at Cal Poly Pomona. She was married to Mark Hopstein on August 24, 2002 at the Jones Victorian Estate in Orange.

Monique Martinez '02, psychology, is a teacher at Duarte Montessori. She was married to Edgar Aguilar on September 14, 2002 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia.

Brian Reichert '02, finance, is a financial analyst at Strategic Equity Group. He is also the member of the Young Professionals Group, an organization that provides young financial professionals with opportunities for development, training, and networking.

Jason Romano '02, spanish, will spend the next year teaching English in Madrid, Spain. He is a master's student in linguistics and the recipient of a Fulbright grant to teach or conduct research abroad.

Cynthia M. Schmit '02, behavioral science, was married to Ain R. Cooke on August 10, 2002 at Bridges Hall of Music on the campus of Pomona College in Claremont. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Smith Campus Center on the Claremont Colleges campus. The couple make their home in New Haven, CT.

Jutar Silakhom ’02, fine arts, recently presented, with Todd Shields and Cal Poly Pomona alumnus Jason Baldridge ’03, graphic design, 25 large-scale acrylic-on-canvas paintings at Opera Garage in Pomona.

Anjum (Andrew) Tunuli ’02, accounting, has recently passed the CPA exam and has started his own accounting firm in Orange County, CA, H&H Tax Services. He also co-owns the real estate brokerage firm Best One Realty & Mortgage Inc.. His hobbies include investing and real estate speculation.

Kristin Verburg ’02, social work, is a legal assistant for the law office of Jacquelyn Sherlin in Diamond Bar. She is engaged to Bret Freman, and they plan to marry on August 7, 2004.

Dan Alexander ’03, public relations, is the Director of Media at Euroclick (http://www.euroclick.com) in Santa Monica, CA. He married Rachel Santuci ’03, Marketing Management, on September 4, 2004 at the Lake Arrowhead Resort. Rachel is the Manager of Conference Services at the Villa Graziadio Executive Center at Pepperdine University in Malibu. Dan and Rachel reside in Santa Monica, CA.

Damien Arrula '03, public administration and business administration, was elected vice president of the Municipal Management Association of Southern California (MMASC).

Shaabini Anjila Babu ‘03, engineering technology, is a project engineer with Murray Company Mechanical Contractors. She married Michael Alford on January 27, 2007. They now reside in Orange County.

Jason Baldridge ’03, graphic design, recently presented, with Todd Shields and Cal Poly Pomona alumnus Jutar Silakhom ’02, fine arts, 25 large-scale acrylic-on-canvas paintings at Opera Garage in Pomona.

Steven T. Chan '03, civil engineering, has graduated from the United States Navy's Basic Civil Engineer Corps Officer School in Hueneme , CA .

Le Ondra Clark '03, psychology, will be attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison to pursue a master's degree in counseling psychology in the fall.

Michelle Renee Engelbrecht '03, marketing management, a studio manager at OC Wedding Photographer married Heath Thomas on September 29, 2006. The couple now reside in Aliso Viejo.

Arion Gnotta ’03, computer science, was one of 67 students selected to work on a project to design a Mars rover for NASA.

Veronika Herrera ’03, GEMS, is a third grad public school teacher in Miami, FL. As a participant in Teach for America Week, she welcomed Miami mayor, Manny Diaz into her classroom, where he spent time teaching a lesson to students and taking questions about his professional career. Teach for America Week took place during the week of October 25-29 2004.

Amy Hoffman ’03, master of landscape architecture, married Michael Dallimore on October 4, 2003 at Torrey Pines State Park. She is a landscape architect.

Joseph Lang '03, behavioral science, is the owner and home inspector with Pillar to Post Professional Home Inspection. He was featured on the front page of the Real Estate section of the L.A. Times on August 26, 2007. Lang married Sylvie Lang '99, pre credential, in 2000. They have three boys: James, Joseph and John Paul and they now reside and operate their business out of Rancho Cucamonga.

Brian Ley ’03, physics, is a second year dental student at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. Brian is also a 2LT in the U.S. Army.

Daniel Murphy '03, management and human resources, completed California highway patrol cadet training and has been assigned to duty in Altadena, CA.

Joseph A. Pruitt '03, biology, is a candidate to receive his degree of doctor of optometry from Illinois College of Optometry. He is currently working at the Veterans Hospital in West Los Angeles. Pruitt has provided eye care to children and adults in every country in Central America.

Mike Rauscher '03, material engineering, was valedictorian of his materials engineering class at Cal Poly Pomona.

Rachel Santuci '03, marketing management, is a programs and marketing manager at Los Angeles Regional Technology Alliance. She was married to Dan Alexander '03, public relations, on September 4, 2004.

Aaron Thomas '03, theatre, directed Summerfest 2004, a festival dedicated to Shakespeare and Shakespeare-inspired original comedy one-acts.

Baovi “V” Tran '03, math, is a math teacher at El Roble Intermediate School.

Joel Wilson '03, music, is the choir director at Claremont High School . Wilson has strengthened the choir's membership. In 2003 the choir program started with 19 members, today the program has over 50 students.

Latasha Burnett '04, pedagogy , was honor by Los Angeles Harbor College in the Athletics Hall of Fame. Burnett was honor for her two successive state titles with the Harbor College women's basketball team. She has made a significant contribution to the college.

Jacob Hairston '04, manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering, has currently been named electronic specialist for the NHRA Technical Services Department. Hairston will address electronic issues in all of NHRA's racing classes.

Jonathon Derrick Harris '04, business administration, is an assistant human resources recruiter for Marina Medical Billing in Cerritos. He married Elizabeth Robin Crumpacker, a barista at Starbucks, on July 1, 2006. The couple now resides in Covina.

Julie Lemaster ’04, accounting, is a staff accountant at Parke, Guptil & Co. LLP. She is working toward her CPA license.

Matthew Martin '04, history, is enrolled in graduate school at Cal Poly Pomona. He married Jolene Walton of Cal State Fullerton on July 31, 2004.

Andrew Perry ’04, pedagogy, is a sales representative for Angel Toys. He recently married Rita Helé a graduate of Cal State Fullerton.

Claudia Reis ’04, music, is a music education teacher in the elementary school music program throughout Claremont, CA schools.

Gabriel Rodriguez '04, communication studies, is mentoring-program coordinator for the San Bernardino Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department.

Sandip Sengupta '04, masters of electrical engineering, is currently teaching computer hardware repair and network at Hacienda La Puente Adult Education.

Thomas Tello '04, biology, is a substitute teacher for Chino Valley Unified and an assistant football coach for Ayala High School. He is recently engaged to Krystyn Chico.

Nicole Briguglio ‘05, finance, real estate and law, is a law student at the University Of La Verne College Of Law . She married Daniel Caldera, an executive for yellow transportation, on October 20, 2007.

Heather Marie Greenway '05, communications, is a representative for Young's Market. She married Bradley Douglas Richmond, the owner of Computer Guys in Glendora , on June 10, 2006.

Jimmy Y. Lim ‘05, international business, is an advertising consultant. He has been in the industry for over 20 years.

Mason Prophet '05, marketing management, is a licensed realtor and works for Prudential Wheeler Steffen Real Estate Inc. in Claremont, CA.

Jennifer Lynn Hughes '06, management and human resources, married James Anthony Ballesteros on October 13, 2007. He is an electric worker for DWP.

Ivan D. Kokos '06, finance real estate and law, is a credit analyst for Wells Fargo Bank. He married Cynthia J. Gonzalez '04, sociology, also a Cal Poly Pomona graduate, on March 2007.

Samuel Anguiano '06, hotel & restaurant management, graduated from The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. He also received the Outstanding Student Leadership award for his Accelerated Culinary Arts Certificate Program.
